There is much to be said about a classic pair of black heels. Erica’s favorite pair is as elegant and classy as they are comfortable and adaptable. Like many of our favorite shoes, this pair of heels came to her life unexpectedly. She was in Las Vegas on vacation with her husband and she did not know he was planning to take her out for a special dinner, so she had not packed fancy shoes. She did what any girl does in this situation, and went out on a 911 shopping spree in search for a survival pair. She found these on the window of a store that was not particularly luxurious or trendy, love at first sight, the right size and her favorite ones from that day on. She describes them as comfortable, the right mix of professional yet sexy that can be worn with an evening dress or jeans. They make her feel empowered.
Her empowerment, however, was built long before her shoes manifested. Pregnant at 15 from an abusive boyfriend, without a high school degree, speaking no English in this country, Erica took one baby step at a time towards her freedom from a bad relationship, an education, a degree and a life of inspiration to other Latinas. That road was not easy, and just like her shoes, she adapted to every curve ball life had for her. Her biggest challenge, having to leave her baby for many nights with her mom or with babysitters, coming home to her son sleeping by the door waiting for her, these are the scars that are weaved into her empowerment. Her strength? Her promise to her baby that she would have a career, a constant reminder to be strong and overcome each one of the challenges. As she went through this, one of her fears was that her son would blame her for leaving him alone so much.Today, he tells her how proud he is of her, and that he has a strong momma- words that mean the world to her.
I believe this pair of shoes are a perfect reflection of this young and beautiful Latina. She is adaptable, elegant, empowering and very fun. She has certainly walked a long way to be who she is today, and while her humility keeps her grounded, her achievements raise her up. She wasn’t expecting her sudden fame, just as she wasn’t expecting going out to dinner that night in Las Vegas. And just like that night, she has quickly made herself ready to use this fame to inspire, to create and to empower other Latinas.

Este par de zapatos son un reflejo perfecto de esta joven y hermosa latina
Hay mucho que decir sobre un clásico par de tacones negros. El par favorito de Erica es tan elegante y con clase como cómodo y adaptable. Como muchos de nuestros zapatos favoritos, este par de tacones llegó a su vida inesperadamente. Ella estaba de vacaciones en Las Vegas con su esposo y no sabía que él estaba planeando llevarla a una cena especial, así que no había empacado zapatos elegantes. Erica hizo lo que cualquier chica hace en esta situación, salió de compras 911 en busca de un par de supervivencia. Los encontró en el escaparate de una tienda que no era particularmente lujosa ni moderna, amor a primera vista, el tamaño adecuado y sus favoritos desde ese día en adelante. Las describe como cómodas, la mezcla correcta de profesionales y sexys que pueden ser usadas con un vestido de noche o jeans. La hacen sentir poderosa.
Su empoderamiento, sin embargo, se construyó mucho antes de que sus zapatos se manifestaran. Embarazada a los 15 años de un novio abusivo, sin un título de bachillerato, sin hablar inglés en este país, Erica dio un paso a la vez hacia su liberación de una mala relación, una educación, un título y una vida de inspiración para otras latinas. Ese camino no fue fácil, y al igual que sus zapatos, se adaptó a todas las curvas de la vida que tenía para ella. Su mayor desafío, tener que dejar a su bebé muchas noches con su mamá o con las niñeras, llegar a casa con su hijo durmiendo junto a la puerta esperándola, son las cicatrices que se entretejen en su empoderamiento. ¿Su fuerza? Su promesa a su bebé de que tendría una carrera, un recordatorio constante de ser fuerte y superar cada uno de los desafíos. Mientras ella pasaba por esto, uno de sus temores era que su hijo la culpara por dejarle tan solo tanto tiempo.
Creo que este par de zapatos son un reflejo perfecto de esta joven y hermosa latina. La joven madre y profesionista es elegante, poderosa y muy divertida. Ciertamente ha caminado un largo camino para ser quien es hoy en día, y aunque su humildad la mantiene firme, sus logros la elevan. No esperaba su repentina fama, como tampoco esperaba salir a cenar esa noche a Las Vegas. Y al igual que esa noche, ella se ha preparado para usar esta fama para inspirar, crear y empoderar a otras latinas.
